Symbols & Stencils Reference

This page catalogs every symbol and stencil available in the Operations Room map editor. Symbols are accessed via the Military Symbols picker (U key). Stencils are accessed via the Stencil modal (S key).

Each entry lists: the name, the abbreviation used in labels (if any), a one-sentence description of its tactical meaning, and the geometry type that determines how you draw it.

Geometry types:

  • Point: click once to place
  • Line: click a start point, click intermediate points, double-click to finish
  • Polyline: same as line, but represents a named route or boundary
  • Polygon: click vertices around the area, close by clicking the first point again

Attack Symbols

Direction of Attack (Arrows)

These are drawn as arrows showing the exact route of an attacking element. Draw by clicking a start point and an endpoint.

Symbol Description
Direction of Main Attack The precise route of advance for the primary attacking element

Symbol Description
Axis of Main Attack General corridor of advance for the primary attacking element
Axis of Supporting Attack General corridor of advance for a supporting element
Airborne Axis of Main Attack General corridor for air-assault main attack
Airborne Axis of Supporting Attack General corridor for air-assault supporting attack

Unit Marker

The Unit Marker is a separate tool from the stencil modal — access it via the Military Symbols picker (U key), then select Unit Marker.

A unit marker represents a friendly, enemy, or neutral unit position on the map. Configure it with:

  • Icon: the unit type symbol (infantry, armour, artillery, etc.)
  • Echelon: fire team, squad, platoon, company, or battalion — shown as a size indicator above the symbol
  • Label: a callsign or designation displayed beneath the marker
  • Team colour: friendly (blue), enemy (red), or neutral (green)

Unit markers scale with the map and move with the Select tool like any other drawing item.
